K.I.S.S. and Keep It Simple With This Blog

Keeping it simple is sometimes easier said than done. But the K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Sweetie) idea is a helpful mantra for a recovering perfectionist like me.

As I prepare to publish Detox Your Life, the book, and to develop this site and start blogging here, I notice myself getting hung up on some little details that actually don’t matter all that much.

Should the section headings in the book be in italics or not in italics?

What font is best for the title of this website, or would a pretty logo be even better?

And what if I should have picked the book cover most people on Facebook voted for?

Yes, these things matter. But they’re not worth a delay. They’re not worth stressing over or analysis paralysis. What they signal in me is that it’s time to detox my own mind and remember to K.I.S.S., to keep it simple, to not be a perfectionist. To keep the creative momentum going.

When creating something like a book or a website—and plenty of other things—decision making and fine-tuning could go on forever. In fact, that’s one reason I started this Detox Your Life website and blog! I realized that in addition to wanting to keep the book short ‘n’ sweet ‘n’ simple, there will always be more to add or update. And so why not add and update here?

You see, one thing I do when I write a book is create an “Editing Room Floor” document. And there’s plenty in that document that could eventually make its way over to this blog. Some of it is additional information on topics presented in the book. Some of it is stuff I completely cut out, like a section in the Relationships chapter on “burning bridges.” Some of it is personal stories that apply to the content in the book.

And just like the Detox Your Life, the book, I envision this blog being super simple, easy, and clean. Streamlined. Accessible. And helpful! Whether I share personal stories, product reviews, or just dive deeper into topics from the book—and topics that didn’t make it in at all—I envision this blog being supportive for you who are reading this right now.

So, if you have questions or there are topics you’d like to request, feel free to contact me. I recommend reading the book first, in case I already cover in there something you’re curious about. And the book is due for publication by the end of September. Sign up to receive publishing notification, and stay tuned!
